In INFINITE GLARE, a new solo presentation at Season 4 Episode 6, emblems of self-help and enlightenment meet the uncanny effects of image manipulation and material contradiction. A monument to the ritualistic habits of unity found in the misadventures of anti-social behaviour sits at the heart of the show, where we find a giant of nature humbled by the listlessness of youth. Throughout the exhibition, unsettling contradictions in symbolic articulations of wellness and death highlight the absurdity of the accepted visual hierarchies of the modern world while ceremonial contexts are reimagined as incidental sites carved out of the everyday.

INFINITE GLARE (CONT.)
Text by Milly Burroughs

Humiliation is wellness in decay.

Manuals for living as artefacts of failure to thrive. Monuments to modernism in a society that has progressed beyond its timeline. Malibu heat, Babitz ambition. Meaning you can see through with a sea view. Utopian fantasy that not even the screen can believe. Architectural iconography of a regime birthed between faith in tradition and nuclear dreams. Propagated across the pages of Better Homes and Gardens. Upheld by a sermon in the cereal aisle.

Body as temple. Milk as moat. Battle scar per capita.

Life lived inside the whale with free will up for auction. The accepted lot. Branded, booked, waxed, relaxed. We are Miller building a high rise in the Tropic of Cancer. Ballard on the balcony. Bodies in bags take the service lift while the beautician and the mortician ride the great glass elevator to the architect’s penthouse.

We are Eno in the Goldfinger. Sky-high at 31 with dreams burned into the ground at LS15.

In the park it’s hot air and no force. You are three then you are ten. Melting youth into the roots of a century-old oak. Casting a plastic tombstone for the faces that never age. Hold the flame until it burns the thumb.

Come together. Hope for more. Worship at the altar of agelessness.

Wait a year. Wait five. Relight the flame.

Look directly into the sun. Go blind. Get Gucci sunglasses.

Write an invoice, write a will. Write the tax man a letter and send it to your therapist.

Find a god. Find one that does house visits. Find one that takes American Express. Do a chemical peel to uncover your authentic self. Kneel on concrete to forgive the cold. Heal with salt in your wounds.

Tito is getting botox on Animal Farm.

These are not George’s books. And that is not his cigarette.
